Jin Xu appointed assistant professor of finance
Jin Xu has been appointed an assistant professor in the Department of Finance at Virginia Tech’s Pamplin College of Business.
Xu is one of nine new faculty members at Pamplin this fall. Their addition reflects the college’s commitment to hiring tenured and tenure-track faculty to further strengthen its teaching, research, and business outreach, particularly in the areas of business intelligence and analytics, innovation through entrepreneurship, and international programs.
Xu received her Ph.D. in finance in 2007 from the University of Chicago, where she also earned an MBA. She has a master’s degree in finance from Peking University and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Renmin University of China.
She previously taught at Purdue University, at the undergraduate, MBA, and doctoral levels. She received various research grants during her study and previous job.
Her research interests are in empirical corporate finance, in particular, capital structure, corporate governance, and executive compensation. Her papers have been published in top peer-reviewed scholarly journals, including the Journal of Financial Economics, the Journal of Accounting and Economics, the Journal of Accounting Research, and the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis.
She has various studies underway examining corporate capital structure decisions and the impact of taxes on value, the U.S. repatriation tax policy on foreign income, the design of executive compensation contracts, and the effect of CEO incentives on corporate dividend policy.
Her research has been mentioned by the Harvard Law School Forum and other news media.
