7:30 p.m. update: The Middleburg Agricultural Research and Extension Center will be closed Tuesday. Staff designated as emergency personnel must report as instructed by their supervisor.

5:30 p.m. update: Virginia Tech in the National Capital Region will be closed on Tuesday Jan. 26. Classes are canceled and administrative offices are closed. This notice applies to Virginia Tech locations in Alexandria, Arlington, Falls Church, and Merrifield.

2:25 p.m. update: Because of the university’s inclement weather closing on Friday, the deadline to add courses has been extended to Tuesday, Jan. 26.  All registration related deadlines can be found at www.registrar.vt.edu/dates_deadlines/drop_add.

6 a.m. update: The following Virginia Tech locations are closed Monday:

  • Virginia Tech in the National Capital Region will be closed.  Classes are canceled and administrative offices are closed. This notice applies to Virginia Tech locations in Alexandria, Arlington, Falls Church, and Merrifield.
  • The Virginia Tech Richmond Center will be closed. All classes and activities are canceled.
  • The Middleburg Agricultural Research and Extension Center will be closed. Staff designated as emergency personnel must report as instructed by their supervisor.

Weather Advisory: Blacksburg Transit to operate Sunday; basketball game vs North Carolina now at 3 p.m.

8:45 a.m. update: The start time for the Virginia Tech men's basketball game versus North Carolina has been moved to 3 p.m. today. Any students without a ticket will be allowed admission (while seats are still available) beginning at 2:45 PM. Must show a student Hokie Passport and line up on the East side of Cassell. Find information on all changes to the athletics schedule at hokiesports.com.

4:30 p.m. update: Blacksburg Transit will operate on Sunday, Jan. 24, in Blacksburg. As normal, there is no service in Christiansburg on Sunday. Staff is checking road conditions to determine if any detours are necessary. Updates will be posted on Twitter and on theBlacksburg Transit website

Weather Advisory: Blacksburg campus closed today; other campuses also affected

BLACKSBURG, Va., Jan. 22, 2016 – The National Weather Service in Blacksburg expects the winter storm to bring heavy snow to many parts of Virginia today and Saturday.

3 p.m. update: The Hampton Roads Agricultural Research and Extension Center closed at 3 p.m. today

12:35 p.m. update: The pools at both War Memorial and McComas are now closed. Both facilities will close today at 5 p.m.  Saturday hours at War and McComas will be determined later, however Saturday swim lessons are canceled.

11:45 a.m. update: The Virginia Tech Richmond Center closed at 11:30 a.m. All classes and activities are canceled.

11 a.m. update: The Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center will be closing for outpatients at noon today. It will remain open for emergencies.

9:45 a.m. update: The Tidewater Agricultural Research and Extension Center will close at noon.

8 a.m. update:  As first reported Thursday afternoon, the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg will be closed today, Employees designated emergency personnel must report as instructed by their supervisors. On Friday, the following dining centers are open for regular hours:

  • Owens Food Court and Hokie Grill
  • D2, Deets Place, and DXpress
  • West End Market

​All other dining centers including Burger '37 and Au Bon Pain Goodwin Hall are closed on Friday.

McComas Hall and War Memorial Gym opened at their normal times on Friday. War opened at 5:30 a.m., and McComas opened at 6 a.m.

Johnston Student Center, the Graduate Life Center, and Squires Student Center will be closed Friday.

Schiffert Health Center will be open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday for urgent care only. It will be closed Saturday. All scheduled appointments will be canceled, and students may call to reschedule. If it is a medical emergency, then students should call 911. 

Other campuses that are closed or are closing early Friday:

  • The Middleburg Agricultural Research and Extension (MARE) Center is closing at noon Friday.
  • The Virginia Tech National Capital Region will be closed Friday and Saturday. This status applies to the locations in Alexandria, Arlington, Falls Church, and Merrifield. Officials will assess conditions on Sunday evening to determine the plan for Monday.
  • The Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine Veterinary Teaching Hospital will be open for emergencies only on Friday. The Roanoke Referral Clinic will be closed.
  • The Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center in Abingdon) will be closed Friday and Saturday.
  • The Virginia Tech Roanoke Center and the Catawba Sustainability Center will be closed Friday and Saturday.

There will be no bus service in Blacksburg or Christiansburg on Friday or Saturday. Officials hope to resume service on Sunday, but this is subject to change. Check @Ride_BT on Twitter or www.btransit.org for updates.

BLACKSBURG, Va., Jan. 21, 2016 – The National Weather Service in Blacksburg is monitoring a significant winter storm that is expected to bring heavy snow to many parts of Virginia on Friday and Saturday

7:15 p.m. update: Newman Library will close at 10 p.m. today. All other Blacksburg branches will close at their regular times. The Art + Architecture branch will be closed through Saturday.

5:40 p.m. update: The Virginia Tech National Capital Region will be closed Friday and Saturday because of the impending winter storm. This status applies to the locations in Alexandria, Arlington, Falls Church, and Merrifield. Officials will assess conditions on Sunday evening to determine the plan for Monday.

The Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine Veterinary Teaching Hospital will be open for emergencies only on Friday. The Roanoke Referral Clinic will be closed.

4:41 p.m. update: The Virginia Tech Roanoke Center and the Catawba Sustainability Centerwill be closed Friday and Saturday.

The Moss Arts Center will close at 6 p.m. today and reopen at 8 a.m. Monday. The  box office will open at 10 a.m. Monday. All weekend activities are canceled.

4:17 p.m. update: Because of inclement weather conditions, the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg will be closed Friday, Jan. 22, effective at 12:01 a.m. Employees designated emergency personnel must report as instructed by their supervisors. Snow Emergency Routes will go into effect at midnight FridayThese roadways must remain open for emergency vehicle use. All vehicles parked along these five roads (parallel and diagonal) must be removed or be towed at owner's expense:

  • Washington Street: between Kent Street and Duck Pond Drive
  • Kent Street: between Washington Street and Drillfield Drive
  • South Drillfield Drive: between Kent Street and West Campus Drive (both sides of the road)
  • Beamer Way: between Washington Street and Southgate Drive.
  • Alumni Mall inbound lane only (the outbound lane will remain unaffected)

12:15 p.m. update: The Student Health and Wellness Fair scheduled for Friday has been postponed to Feb. 12.

11 a.m. update: This weekend's Hokie Invitational indoor track meet has been canceled. Updates on this and other athletics events are posted online at hokiesports.com.

9:45 a.m. update: The Office of Undergraduate Admissions is closing on Friday and Saturday. All admissions information sessions and campus tours are canceled.

9:15 a.m. update: campus gathering in memory of Nicholas Robert Anderson scheduled for Saturday at the Virginia Tech War Memorial Chapel has been postponed. A new date will be announced as soon as it has been determined.

Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center closes early Wednesday; stronger winter storm in forecast

BLACKSBURG, Va., Jan. 20, 2016 – The National Weather Service in Blacksburg is monitoring two storm systems. The first is a fast moving system that could bring light snow to parts of Western Virginia Wednesday. A more significant winter weather event is possible as early as Thursday evening into Friday.

3 p.m. update: The Ryan Lopynski Big Heart Foundation has postponed the free Electrocardiogram (EKG) screenings originally scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 23. A new date has not been selected.

2 p.m. update:  The Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center in Abingdon closed today at 1 p.m.
