Business Analytics Symposium set for Sept. 28
Explore how analytics can transform the workplace and give companies an innovative and competitive edge at the Business Analytics Symposium on Sept. 28 from noon to – 5 p.m. in Haymarket Theater, located in the Squires Student Center.
Sponsored by the Center for Business Intelligence and Analytics, Pamplin College of Business, and Deloitte, the symposium will feature speakers from Virginia Tech, Deloitte, IBM, and Abbtech Professional Resources.
“The symposium is designed for students, faculty, and corporate leaders who wish to focus on pragmatic issues faced by companies when using large sets of data to build strategies that drive business success,” said Linda Oldham, the center’s executive director.
Keynote speaker Greg Donahoe, Deloitte’s senior manager of analytics and information management, will discuss tech trends and the worker of the future.
Emerging tools, technologies, and processes will be discussed in three panels on areas that can stimulate a new wave of business innovation and growth: “Internet of Things,” workforce analytics, and cognitive analytics.
Speakers from Deloitte are Rob Torpey, senior manager of analytics and information management; Kurt Bell, senior manager of human capital HR technology; and Ayan Bhattacharya, specialist leader of analytics and information management.
Other speakers include Dick Darden, of IBM; Threase Baker, of Abbtech Professional Resources; and, from Virginia Tech, Kevin Carlson, professor and department head of management; Ralph Badinelli, professor of business information technology; and Walid Saad, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering.
The event is free and open to the public.
