Christopher Thompson has been named as an assistant professor in the School of Neuroscience at Virginia Tech, part of the College of Science.

Thompson earned his bachelor of science in ecology, ethology, and evolution from University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana in 2000 and a doctoral degree in neurobiology and behavior from the University of Washington in 2008. Among his most recent posts is working at the Scripps Research Institute.

He studies the effect of changes in thyroid hormone signaling on brain development in African clawed frog tadpoles, with a target of using his findings to assess man-made chemicals thought to interfere with thyroid hormone signaling for their effects on brain development.

Thompson is one of 18 tenured and tenure-track faculty members to join the College of Science and the new School of Neuroscience at Virginia Tech this year.
