Melanie Schramm named as marketing director for Virginia Tech

Melanie Schramm has been named director of marketing for Virginia Tech.

In her new position, Schramm will be responsible for facilitating Virginia Tech’s branding initiative and will help raise the visibility and awareness of the university through marketing campaigns and strategies.

Schramm will work with Advancement teams across campus to promote the university to a broad array of audiences. She will also oversee the university’s licensing and trademarks team.

"Melanie is a returning Hokie and a marketing whiz," said Tracy Vosburgh, senior associate vice president for university relations. "We are fortunate to be able to have her with us as we move forward with our brand initiative."

Since 2011, Schramm has worked as the director of marketing/sales and corporate outreach for Purdue University’s professional education program through its colleges of Engineering and Technology. In that role, she developed strategies that led to increased enrollments and revenue. She managed Purdue's role with marketing partner, All Campus, specific to short course and professional programs and managed a team charged with digital and social media marketing.

While at Purdue, Schramm received several national marketing awards from the University Professional and Continuing Education Association, including accolades for best campaign, best print ad, and best integrated marketing strategy in 2015.

Prior to her current role at Purdue, Schramm directed marketing and recruitment efforts for Virginia Tech’s full-time and Professional MBA programs. While at Virginia Tech, she increased application volume to the full-time program and developed specific outreach efforts for women and minorities.  

Schramm also has served as assistant director of MBA admissions at Michigan State University and was assistant director of law admissions at Ohio Northern University’s Pettit College of Law.

Schramm received her bachelor’s degree in broadcast and internet journalism from Ohio University. She has a master’s degree in higher education administration from the College of William and Mary.
