Justina Sumpter has been named director of alumni relations for the College of Architecture and Urban Studies at Virginia Tech.

In her new role, Sumpter leads engagement of the college’s 15,000 alumni and 2,200 students, providing events, networking, and relationship-building outreach and programming. Part of the college advancement team since March, Sumpter serves as a link between alumni, development, and college departments to amplify the connections and success of CAUS graduates.

Previously, Sumpter served as assistant director of United Way of Montgomery, Radford and Floyd. In addition to overseeing marketing and development activities, she built innovative fundraising events and engagement programs, managed the nonprofit organization’s strategic vision and growth, and supported the needs of more than 26 New River Valley organizations. She also served as the marketing and development manager for more than five years.

A 2008 Radford University graduate, Sumpter holds a bachelor’s degree in media studies with an emphasis in advertising.

Sumpter is one of three new hires on the college’s advancement team. Reporting to Virginia Tech Associate Vice President for Alumni Relations Deborah Day and CAUS Chief Advancement Officer Holly Kobia, she joins Director of Communications Marya Barlow, Assistant Director of Leadership Giving Rachael Estep, and Executive Assistant Debbie Sturm on the CAUS advancement team.

Sumpter encourages CAUS alumni to connect and share their stories and suggestions by contacting her at justinas@vt.edu or (540) 231-1486.
