Virginia Tech is piloting a new bus service that will provide transportation for students, employees, and their guests from the Blacksburg/Roanoke area to northern Virginia seven days a week.
The Campus-to-Campus Bus will operate year-round, except on designated university holidays. The buses, which will be operated by Abbott Transportation, are equipped with free Wi-Fi and have electrical outlets at each seat. They are full-size charter buses with seatbelts, reading lights, reclining seats, and a restroom.
From June 5 to Aug. 1, during the pilot phase of the service, the one-way rate of $95 has been reduced to $50 for riders who are willing to provide feedback via an online survey after the trip. Suggestions and feedback from the survey will be used to improve the service before it is fully launched on Aug. 1.
Students and employees can purchase tickets for business or personal travel via the online reservation system. MasterCard and Visa are accepted. Business travelers can also pay via HokieMart.
Buses will depart from Blacksburg and Arlington twice each weekday, and once on Saturdays and Sunday. The trip, which includes a stop at the Interstate 81 Exit 140 Park and Ride in Salem to accommodate Roanoke passengers, will take about 4 ½ hours.
The detailed schedule is available online and as a printable PDF.
