Senior Military Colleges Meet At Virginia Tech

Representatives from the nation's six senior military colleges will hear from the Department of Defense and national Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) commanders during the annual Senior Military Colleges Conference at Virginia Tech on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 17 and 18 at the Donaldson Brown Hotel and Conference Center.

"This gives us the opportunity to showcase ourselves to the ROTCs," said Col. Rock Roszak, Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets project officer. "Our students go through so much more than the normal ROTC."

In addition, representatives of all the corps get the chance to hear officials from the personnel office of the Department of Defense discuss future plans that could affect recruiting and education at the military colleges, Roszak said.

The nation's six senior military colleges are Virginia Tech, the Citadel, North Georgia College and State University, Norwich University, Texas A&M University and Virginia Military Institute. Staff and cadets from the Virginia Women's Institute for Leadership at Mary Baldwin College and State University of New York Maritime College in the Bronx will also attend.

Conference participants will discuss a wide range of topics, including issues important to all senior military colleges highlighting diversity, personnel and scholarship. Cadets from each college will also make presentations about their respective institutes.

The conference will end with most participants staying to watch two of its members, Virginia Tech and Texas A&M, play each other in football on Thursday, Sept. 18.
