Media Advisory: Virginia Tech To Be Recognized For "Disability Friendly" Practices
October 28, 2003
Virginia Tech will be presented with the Disability-Friendly Business Award, Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003, at 11 a.m. in room 230 Student Services Building on campus.
The Virginia Department of Rehabilitative Services will present the university with a certificate and a seal to recognize its efforts in actively recruiting persons with disabilities in the workforce and for making the campus accessible to employees and students with disabilities.
The "Disability-Friendly Business" Recognition Program was created to acknowledge businesses who have gone beyond the legal compliances of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and embraced the talents that people with disabilities contribute to the workplace and to the community.
The award is also sponsored by the Virginia Business Leadership Network (VABLN) in observance of October's National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
