Tech's top graduate students, seniors elected to Phi Kappa Phi
The Virginia Tech Chapter of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi has elected 798 seniors and graduate students to its membership, which is based on superior scholarship and good character, and will initiate the new members on Dec. 5. Only seniors ranking in the top 10 percent of their class and graduate students ranking in the top 10 percent of candidates for a graduate degree are considered for membership.
Phi Kappa Phi is the nation's oldest, largest, and most selective all-discipline honor society. The Virginia Tech Chapter, chartered in 1921, was the 25th chapter to be organized and is now one of more than 280 chapters nationally. The society was formed to "recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others."
The president of the Virginia Tech Chapter is Eleanor D. Schlenker, associate director of Family Consumer Sciences and Food, Nutrition, and Health for Virginia Cooperative Extension.
