How do small businesses succeed? Savvy and successful managers of small, high-tech firms will share their experiences at a conference on April 22-23 at the Hotel Roanoke, co-sponsored by the Virginia Tech Office of the Vice Provost for Research and the Virginia Commonwealth University Office of the Vice President for Research.

Topics will include finding funding, making decisions, innovation, protecting and developing ideas and products, scaling up, marketing, and growing.

"The conference is for CEO's and other senior technical and financial and management," says K.C. Das, conference organizer and former director of the Commonwealth of Virginia Office of Science and Technology.

"The conference will also benefit those working with small tech firms such as venture capital firms and other investors, banks, students, public finance and small tech agencies, consultants and lawyers," Das says. "Many speakers are current CEO's of successful technology companies and they will discuss their experience in such areas as business planning, strategy, financing (including SBIR), marketing and market research, attracting and retaining quality staff, facilities, IPO, collaborations, and the importance of company performance. Other speakers are experienced in allied areas that are important to small high tech firm success."
