Virginia Cooperative Extension promotes Goerlich to central district leader

The Virginia Cooperative Extension has promoted Dan Goerlich to the position of central district program leader. Based out of Appomattox, Va., Goerlich’s new position includes the development and coordination of educational programs in agriculture, natural resources, community viability, 4-H, and consumer and family sciences across 17 counties.

Prior to becoming district program leader, Goerlich worked in the Virginia Cooperative Extension Halifax County office as an extension agent in forestry management. He also serves on the faculty in the Department of Forestry in the College of Natural Resources at Virginia Tech.

“Dan is recognized as a top notch program person by very clearly assessing needs of target audiences and applying innovative programs to meet those needs,” said Jim Johnson, associate dean of outreach and extension in Virginia Tech’s College of Natural Resources. “In a short period, Dan really distinguished himself among Virginia’s extension agents.”

Goerlich earned his bachelor’s degree in forestry from Virginia Tech and a master’s degree in forestry from the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY-ESF).
