Nona Gabbert of Blacksburg, operations manager at Shultz Dining Center at Virginia Tech, was recently honored by the members of the Air Force ROTC of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets. Earlier in November, the students conducted a pass-in-review ceremony in front of War Memorial Chapel on the Virginia Tech campus as a tribute to her for her outstanding service to students.

Shultz Dining Center serves as the primary dining venue for students in the corps. Gabbert received a certificate of appreciation and a coin stamped with the Air Force ROTC insignia, a traditional military symbol of honor.

“We wanted to thank her,” said Matthew Lisa of Elkton, Md., as student majoring in aerospace engineering in the College of Engineering and member of the Corps of Cadets. “She’s always bright and cheery every morning at 6:30 or 7 a.m. for breakfast. And she’s helped us out of a lot of tough spots this year.” He said that on several occasions his organization needed a facility on short notice and Gabbert arranged space for them in Shultz, even when notified only one day in advance.

This is Gabbert’s fourth award from the corps, including several certificates of appreciation and a designation of “honorary cadre” for her continuous dedication to the students and personnel in the corps of cadets.
