On Thursday April 27, Blacksburg Police served a direct indictment that was handed down by a Montgomery County Grand Jury earlier this week. A Virginia Tech student has been indicted for involuntary manslaughter following the investigation into the death of Brian Joseph McCloskey, a freshman in University Studies from Olney, Md.

McCloskey died Nov. 10, 2005 from injuries he sustained five days after he was found unconscious near Christine Court in Blacksburg.

The Virginia Tech community is grateful to the Blacksburg Police Department for their detective work leading to an arrest. The university continues to grieve the loss of Brian McCloskey to his premature death last fall and we are shocked and saddened that another Virginia Tech student has been charged with involuntary manslaughter.

We are hopeful that the full story will be told and that the McCloskey family can find peace and closure over their terrible loss.
