Virginia Tech is launching a student contest "Let's Go Tubing" starting Feb. 28 for videos to be posted on the YouTube video website.

"Let's Go Tubing" is the first university sponsored contest of its kind.

The purpose of the contest is to create excitement among the student body about what makes Virginia Tech unique, and tie the promotion to building awareness of the university brand: “Invent the Future.” Current students with a valid vt.edu email address, including recent graduates, are invited to participate.

“We’re excited to be the first university to have this kind of contest," said Chris Clough, director of marketing and strategic communications for the university. "The videos we receive from students will not only allow them to showcase their talents, but to showcase Virginia Tech to the world through this popular online community.”

The contest runs from Feb. 28 through May 15, with students submitting videos up to two minutes in length and tagged with "vtcontest" on the YouTube website.

Contest VIP judges include Nick Bennett, alumnus and star of the recent Virginia Tech Coca-Cola commercial; Tim Leaton, award-winning film student, and others.

Cash prizes for winners are $500 for first, $250 for second, and $100 for third place. In addition, the winning videos will be played on the giant video screen at Lane Stadium during Hokie Spirit Day in August.

Students interested in entering the contest should go to the "Let's Go Tubing" website.
