Lynne M. Doughtie, of Powhatan, Va., will receive the 2007 Distinguished Alumnus Award from Virginia Tech's Pamplin College of Business at the college's commencement ceremony that begins at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, at Cassell Coliseum.

The Pamplin College of Business Distinguished Alumnus Award was created in 1990 to honor alumni for outstanding career accomplishments and contributions to the college.

Doughtie is national managing partner for the U.S. advisory practice of Big Four public accounting firm KPMG. She helps lead a team of nearly 5,000 partners and professionals across the country who provide a range of financial, risk management, and performance improvement services to Fortune 1000 companies. As a member of KPMG’s management committee, she helps shape the firm’s strategic business direction.

Doughtie earned a bachelor of science in accounting from Virginia Tech in 1985. She was active on campus as a member of Beta Alpha Psi, the national organization for accounting, finance, and information systems students and professionals, and the Kappa Delta sorority. Upon graduation, Doughtie joined KPMG’s Richmond office. Over the past 20 years, she has served in the audit and advisory practices and in various regional and national leadership roles.

A Certified Public Accountant in Virginia and New York, Doughtie divides her time between Richmond and New York City. She often speaks to business groups and on college campuses, including at Virginia Tech last fall: as Pamplin’s Wachovia Distinguished Speaker, she discussed the dramatic changes in corporate governance and federal securities regulation resulting from the corporate financial scandals of the past five years. Doughtie serves on the advisory board of the accounting and information systems department and on the national advisory board of INROADS, which aims to develop talented minority youth and prepare them for corporate and community leadership roles.
