Students and faculty tired of crowded cycling classes in the McComas fitness rooms may now come out and join in the largest and longest cycling class at Virginia Tech.

Virginia Tech Recreational Sports and title sponsors, the University Bookstore and Volume Two Bookstore, will host this year's University Bookstore Spin-a-Thon on Thursday, August, 30, from 2 to 7 p.m. at the tennis courts located on Washington Street.

Fitness instructors from Rec Sports, along with the Blacksburg Health and Fitness at the Weight Club will lead Spin-a-Thon participants through high energy cycling workouts outside on stationary bikes. The event is open to the entire Virginia Tech community, as well as others in the Blacksburg community.

"It's going to be a very unique event," said Ali Arner, fitness coordinator of Recreational Sports. "It's free, no experience is necessary, and it's going to be one of the biggest fitness exercise programs to be held outdoors." Spinners of all levels are welcome. Participants can ride for a long as they want, whether for a half-hour session or for the entire five hour event.

The first 150 to register online will receive a free T-shirt. Raffle prizes will be given out from the following participating sponsors: University Bookstore, Volume Two Bookstore, Blacksburg Health and Fitness at the Weight Club, Champs Sportsbar and Cafe, TCBY, and Squeaky's Laser Wash Car Wash.

Participants can register online at www.recsports.vt.edu to reserve a bike. Walk-ups are welcome. Visitor parking passes are available for this event at 142 McComas Hall; Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Rain location will be War Memorial Gym 125.

Virginia Tech Recreational Sports joins in partnership with the University to enhance the quality of life for all students, faculty, staff, their families, and the community by providing recreational and fitness opportunities throughout the year.
