Virginia Tech, Blacksburg Transit launch contest seeking new look for Hokie Express
Virginia Tech and Blacksburg Transit have launched a bus design contest seeking a new look for the Hokie Express buses used on the campus circulator route.
“The purpose of the ‘Design Your Ride: Show Hokie Pride’ contest is to help the campus community become more aware of the Hokie Express bus route at Virginia Tech,” said Debby Freed, the university’s alternative transportation manager.
“In addition to raising awareness of the benefits and alternative transportation options at Virginia Tech, we are asking the campus community to help create a new exterior design for the buses used on the Hokie Express route.”
Enter the contest online and submit artwork electronically. You must have a Virginia Tech personal identifier (PID) to enter the contest. The deadline for artwork submission is Friday, Oct. 12.
Once the finalists have been chosen, the campus community will be asked to vote on the winning design. In addition to monetary awards for first, second and third place, the first place winner’s artwork will be displayed on the Hokie Express route buses for a minimum of three years. The unveiling ceremony for the buses will be held in February 2008.
“Blacksburg Transit and Virginia Tech have partnered for 25 years to provide a bus service to students, faculty and staff,” said Rebecca Martin, Director of Blacksburg Transit. “We believe this contest is an excellent opportunity for the campus community to illustrate their hokie pride and create a design for us to proudly display on our buses.”
Hokie Express is a university-dedicated bus route that circulates between the Drillfield and the Oak Lane community, making 12 stops. Riding is pre-paid through student fees for the Virginia Tech campus community and all Blacksburg Transit buses have bicycle racks for those who choose to bring their bikes to campus.
