A back-to-back performance is not easy, but the Virginia Tech women's club soccer team has proven it has the heart of a champion.

The National Intramural Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) Region II Qualifying Soccer Tournament held in Tuscaloosa, Ala., became Hokie Nation as the women’s club soccer team defeated Georgia Tech 4-0 in the finals to claim their second regional championship title. Approximately 25 collegiate club teams competed in the Region II qualifying tournament.

"We went in as defending champions last year, and a lot of teams didn’t expect us to be as competitive," said Amanda Barbaris, president of women’s club soccer. "It’s even better to stay on top, and people notice we have a great program, and that we are the team to look out for."

As the regional champion, the women’s club soccer team received an expense-paid bid to compete in the NIRSA Collegiate Soccer Sport Club Championships to be held in Pensacola, Fla., Nov. 15-17. Virginia Tech Sports Clubs said it is excited with the success of the women’s club soccer program over the last few years.

"I’m very proud that this has become a growing trend with the women’s soccer team," said Alan Glick, assistant director of sports clubs. "They work very hard, and they have a good coach, and their hard work has payed off."

The women’s club soccer team has their hopes set on bringing a national championship title to Virginia Tech.
