Carolyn Kreiter-Foronda, the Poet Laureate of Virginia (2006-08), will read from her poetry and share her artwork on Monday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. in Shanks Hall 370-380. This event is free and open to the public.

Kreiter-Foronda’s publications include four books of verse, articles on writing, and book chapters on poetry and thinking skills. Her poetry honors include three Pushcart Prize nominations, an Edgar Allan Poe first place award, and three Artist-in-Education grants and one Arts-on-the-Road grant from the Virginia Commission for the Arts. In 1992, she was named a Virginia Cultural Laureate for her contributions in the field of American Literature.

Kreiter-Foronda was named Poet Laureate of Virginia, an honorary position created to encourage the exchange of arts information and perspectives, by Gov. Tim Kaine. Kreiter-Foronda, who has two master’s degrees and a Ph.D. from George Mason University in Virginia, is a retired English teacher from Fairfax County Schools. Her visit is co-sponored by Virginia Tech’s School of Education and the Department of English.
