The Department of Recreational Sports, part of Virginia Tech's Division of Student Affairs, will host the Coca-Cola Hokie Open Golf Tournament on Monday, April 28, 2008, at the Pete Dye River Course in Radford, Va.

There will be a shotgun start at 1 p.m. with dinner and an awards ceremony following the end of the tournament. The golf tournament is open to all Virginia Tech patrons and to the public. All of the proceeds from the event will help fund recreational sports student scholarships.

“I think this event is a great opportunity to help raise money for students within the recreational sports department,” said Chris Wise, director of recreational sports. “It allows our department to provide additional resources outside of our normal funding, which will go toward developing students who want to pursue a career in the [recreational sports] field or in health promotion.”

The recreational sports department will also give back to participants with some free incentives including door prizes and contests throughout the day for a chance to win gifts from recreational sports sponsors.

Likewise, participants are encouraged to register for the golf tournament during the early bird special, which lasts through April 7, 2008 at midnight. Teams who register during this time can take an additional $20 off the entry fee and will also be entered into the Early Bird Drawing. Entry fees include green fees, a golf cart, range balls, dinner, and raffle prizes.

Online registration is now open, and the golf tournament is limited to the first 25 teams.

Virginia Tech Recreational Sports joins in partnership with the university to enhance the quality of life for all students, faculty, staff, their families, and the community by providing recreational and fitness opportunities throughout the year.
