A campus service to celebrate and honor the life of Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Zenobia Lawrence Hikes, who died Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, will be held Friday, Oct. 31 in the Burruss auditorium promptly at 1:30 p.m. Doors will open at 12:30 p.m. All members of the university community are invited to attend.

A streaming video of the campus service will be made available and linked on the Virginia Tech homepage. The service will also be broadcast on campus cable channels 2, 3, and 4 and on channel 18 through Comcast Cable in Blacksburg. Overflow seating will also be made available in Squires Student Center's Haymarket Theatre on campus.

Dr. Hikes touched many lives throughout the Virginia Tech and Blacksburg communities. All are welcome and invited to attend this event to remember her life — one that was dedicated to serving students as well as leading and inspiring colleagues. Members of Dr. Hikes’ family will be in attendance.

The family also requests that donations be made to the Zenobia Lawrence Hikes Scholarship Fund, c/o Virginia Tech Foundation, Attention: Gift Accounting, 902 Prices Fork Road (0336), Blacksburg, Va., 24061. The scholarship will support undergraduate students who are underrepresented in higher education and embody the leadership and legacy of Dr. Hikes.

Additionally, on Friday, Oct. 31 the Commonwealth of Virginia flag in front of Burruss Hall will be flown at half staff in honor of Dr. Hikes and her dedication to Virginia Tech.

Support services continue to be available to all students, faculty, and staff members in the Squires Student Center, Jamestown Room (2nd floor) until Friday, Oct. 31 at 5 p.m. This is a place where individuals can gather for peer support, conversation, and solitude.

Funeral services for Dr. Hikes will take place Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at the Episcopal Church of Saints Andrew and Matthew, 719 North Shipley Street, Wilmington, Del., 19801.
