Accessing the latest Virginia Tech Recreational Sports news is now being made easier by a partnership with HotHand Wireless.

HotHand Wireless is a free program designed to help provide quick, free, and easy updates for people hoping to stay in the loop with Virginia Tech Recreational Sports. Virginia Tech patrons and community members can register to obtain news from specific recreational sports programs by accessing the mobile Web and receiving text messages.

Participants have the flexibility to choose notifications specific to their interests and can register a multitude of ways for this free service. Online registration is available at the Recreational Sports website, by texting HOTHAND VT to 32075, or by browsing the mobile Web on their phone. The program is designed to help bridge the community by providing ongoing information to the student body. HotHand Wireless also provides tools for additional information.

“One way we plan on implementing HotHand Wireless at rec sports is to keep in contact with intramural team captains and officials,” expressed Ben Smith, intramural sports coordinator. “We hope to use this to notify teams about meetings and game cancellations. HotHand Wireless will allow us to keep in contact with individuals no matter where they are.”

In addition to receiving the latest news from recreational sports, users can access special deals from merchants involved with the department. Virginia Tech patrons can save cash at their favorite local places by accessing the mobile Web on their phone and clicking on “Hot Deals” to view a list of over 20 Blacksburg and Christiansburg merchants. Merchants include Blacksburg Health and Fitness at the Weight Club, Castle Rock Golf and Recreation Center, Champs Sportsbar and Café, Days Inn Blacksburg, Famous Anthony’s, Foxridge Apartments, Holiday Inn University, Images by B, Inkspot, Maggie Moo’s, Moe’s Southwest Grill, PK’s Restaurant and Bar, Salem Red Sox, Shell Rapid Lube, Subway, TCBY, Texas Roadhouse, The BreakZONE, The Farmhouse Restaurant, Top of the Stairs, The University Bookstore, Venture Out, and the Virginia Tech Golf Course. To receive special deals from these merchants, Hothand users show the offer on their phone. New merchants and special deals are being added daily.
