Schiffert Health Center, which provides a wide variety of health care services for Virginia Tech students, has received its sixth accreditation from the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). It is a three-year term of accreditation, which is the longest period the AAAHC awards.

Status as an accredited organization means Schiffert Health Center has met nationally recognized standards for the provision of quality health care. Third-party payers, medical organizations, liability insurance companies, state and federal agencies, and the public recognize AAAHC accreditation as a symbol of quality.

“Accreditation shows our commitment to providing the highest levels of quality care to our patients, and the same high level of conduct in our business practices,” said Kanitta Charoensiri, the director of Schiffert Health Center. “Accreditation by the AAAHC is proof of this commitment, and signifies that we have met the rigorous standards of a nationally recognized third party.”

Ambulatory health care organizations seeking accreditation by the AAAHC undergo an extensive process that involves self-assessment and on-site review by the accreditation association’s expert surveyors, including volunteer physicians, nurses, and administrators who are actively involved in ambulatory healthcare. The review is also consultative and educational, presenting best practices to help an organization improve its care and services.

The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC/Accreditation Association), founded in 1979, is the leader in ambulatory health care accreditation with more than 3,000 organizations accredited nationwide. The AAAHC accredits a variety of ambulatory health care organizations, including ambulatory surgery centers, office-based surgery centers, endoscopy centers, college student health centers, and large medical and dental practices. The Accreditation Association serves as an advocate for the provision of high-quality health care through the development of nationally recognized standards and through its survey and accreditation programs.
