Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Change of Command Parade to be held May 1

On May 1, the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets will conduct a Pass in Review to honor the Class of 2010 as they become alumni of the corps and to usher in the Class of 2011 as the new cadet officers and commanders of the Regiment.

Command will be passed from Cadet Peter Laclede of Fairfax, Va., a senior double-majoring in political science and history in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences and pursuing a minor in leadership studies, who will be an intelligence officer in the U.S. Air Force after graduation, to Cadet Micah Hafich of Woodbridge, Va., a junior Air Force ROTC cadet majoring in mathematics in the College of Science and pursuing a minor in leadership studies.

Hafich says, "I am both honored and excited about the opportunity in front of me. Serving as the regimental commander for the fall 2010 semester will allow me to serve our corps of cadets in a unique way while gaining valuable leadership experience in the process."

Laclede had this to say of his experience, “It was such an honor to serve as the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets’ spring regimental commander. To say I’ve learned a lot is an understatement and while it was a busy semester that required hard work, it was a truly great experience that I will never forget. I wish Cadet Micah Hafich and all of his commanders the best of luck next semester and know that I am leaving this regiment in very capable hands.”

The ceremony will begin at 10 a. m. on the Drillfield, in front of Burruss Hall. The corps is proud to welcome University President Charles W. Steger who will address the cadets during the parade. In addition, the Highty Tighties, the regimental band, will play and Skipper, the corps cannon, will be fired when the cadets first enter the Drillfield, at the first note of the National Anthem, and the first note of Tech Triumph. There will be three shots total, the first shot will be at approximately 9:50 a.m. and the final shot will be at about 10:45 a.m.

All are welcome to come and view this culminating event for the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Class of 2010.
