Lynn Young, director of alumni relations and student affairs in the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech, received the university's 2010 President's Award for Excellence.

The President's Award for Excellence is presented annually to up to five Virginia Tech staff employees who have made extraordinary contributions by consistent excellence in the performance of their job or a single incident, contribution, or heroic act. Each recipient is awarded a $2,000 cash prize.

A member of the Virginia Tech community for 26 years, Young has been the director of alumni relations and student affairs at the veterinary college for the past six years. In 2000, she was appointed to direct the alumni programs in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, College of Natural Resources, and the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. Since that time, she has created board of directors and ambassador programs and many other programs which facilitate networking among students and alumni.

"Lynn Young exemplifies the Virginia Tech motto of Ut Prosim (That I May Serve), said Doug Graham, immediate past president of the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine Alumni Society. "She works tirelessly at creating, implementing, and growing alumni and student programs -- not just because it is her job but because she truly cares about the future of this college and Virginia Tech."

"She is an excellent asset to the veterinary college community," added Jaclyn Page, president of the veterinary college's Class of 2011. "Her communication skills are remarkable and she is truly a dedicated member of the college and Virginia Tech communities. Not only does she possess truly amazing organization skills, she is driven, hard working, and never passes up an opportunity to be of service to anyone in need."

"Lynn is not only a team player, but goes out of her way to seek collaboration and buy in for the greater good," said Debbie Day, associate vice president for alumni relations. "She is innovative in her ideas, inclusive in her approach, and fair in her actions."
