As spring semester draws to a close, Virginia Tech is gearing up for orientation sessions, renovations, and summer conferences that will take place during the university's first summer session, which runs from May 24 through July 1, and second summer session, which will take place from July 6 through Aug. 12.

Orientation

Freshman orientation will be held from July 6 through July 23, during which all incoming freshmen must attend a two-day session. Transfer students must attend one of the required one-day transfer orientation sessions, which run from June 21 through June 23.

During orientation, students will have the opportunity to register for fall semester courses, meet current and incoming Virginia Tech students, and receive a personal identification card. Details relating to the 2010 orientation program are available through the New Student Programs website.

Renovations

With the residence halls empty, Virginia Tech Housing Services will use the opportunity to clean all residence hall rooms, paint approximately 1,500 rooms, and review for any necessary repairs. In addition, Miles Hall has been scheduled for major upgrades, including refinished casework, new vanities and countertops, and new furniture.

In Peddrew-Yates Hall, a storage area is going to be converted into a unisex bathroom, and several rooms that were being used as offices will be converted back into student rooms to allow for additional residents. Carpeting will also be replaced throughout the residence hall.

Finally, renovations will continue in Lee Hall, with work being completed on the elevators that was not completed last summer.
