Gabriella Belli, associate professor of educational leadership and policy studies in the School of Education in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences at Virginia Tech, has been conferred the “associate professor emerita” title by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.

The title of emeritus may be conferred on retired professors and associate professors, administrative officers, librarians, and exceptional staff members who are specially recommended to the board of visitors by Virginia Tech President Charles W. Steger. Nominated individuals who are approved by the board of visitors receive an emeritus certificate from the university.

A member of the Virginia Tech community since 1983, Belli’s research interests focused on teaching and communicating statistical concepts to non-technical audiences. She was a charter member of the International Association of Statistical Education. In addition, she has been involved with the Educational Statisticians SIG of the American Educational Research Association and was an associate editor for The Journal of Educational Statistics.

Belli served as co-director of the Virginia Tech National Capital Region Research Methods Consortium for five years and organized and ran a dissertation support group for doctoral students in the National Capital Region. In addition, she was president of Virginia Tech/University of Virginia Northern Virginia Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa for two years, and received their Distinguished Academic Service Award.

Belli taught 15 different graduate level courses ranging across the statistics and research methods curriculum. She also served as research advisor on four master’s degree theses and 84 dissertation committees in 12 university programs. She continues to serve on eight more doctoral dissertation committees.

She received her bachelor’s degree from St. Bonaventure University and a master’s degree and Ph.D. from Michigan State University.
