Tarun Sen, professor of accounting and information systems in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech, has been conferred the “professor emeritus” title by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.

The title of emeritus may be conferred on retired professors and associate professors, administrative officers, librarians, and exceptional staff members who are specially recommended to the board of visitors by Virginia Tech President Charles W. Steger. Nominated individuals who are approved by the board of visitors receive an emeritus certificate from the university.

A member of the Virginia Tech community since 1985, Sen has published in leading journals, including Management Science, INFORMS Journal on Computing, Decision Support Systems, and IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man and Cybernetics. He served on the editorial review board of the Journal of Information Systems and participated in several National Science Foundation review panels.

Sen served as associate dean of graduate and international programs and director of the Master of Business Administration (MBA) programs. He launched the university’s first Executive MBA program in the National Capital Region and the joint Master in Information Technology program between Virginia Tech and S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research in Mumbai, India.

Sen served on numerous dissertation committees and taught courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels — most recently teaching in the Master of Information Technology program in the National Capital Region.

Sen received his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa.
