At approximately 8:50 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 23, the Virginia Tech Police Department received a report of an assault that occurred approximately 20 minutes earlier, near the intersection of Smithfield Road and Duckpond Drive.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., a female student was walking along Smithfield Road when she observed a person following her.  She stated that the person approached her from behind and pushed her to the ground.  The victim was able to kick the offender away   and was then able to flee the area and call for assistance.  The victim reported that no weapon was displayed during the assault and that she was not injured or sexually assaulted.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 6 foot tall, average build, wearing a dark hooded shirt and blue jeans. 

Virginia Tech Police would like to remind all community members of the following:

  • Be aware of your surroundings and trust your instincts.
  • Report all suspicious people and circumstances immediately.
  • Call Virginia Tech Police Department immediately to report all suspicious people and circumstances.
