Competitive slam poetry, bowling, billiards, and brains are on the bill for the annual Association of College Unions International’s regional leisure tournament at the BreakZONE Recreation Center in Virginia Tech’s Squires Student Center this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 3 and 4. The competition begins at 7 p.m. Friday.

The event will feature students from Virginia Tech and several other universities in Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, and South Carolina battling for the top spot in the following categories:

  • Bowling (teams, doubles, and singles);
  • Billiards (9-ball, men’s, and women’s);
  • Chess;
  • Poetry slam (teams);
  • Spades; and
  • Table tennis (men’s and women’s).

There will also be a quiz bowl sponsored by National Academic Quiz Tournaments where teams will earn points based on their knowledge of several different subjects, including, history, math, and video games.

Individual winning bowlers and winning teams will receive medals, while the winners of the poetry slam, billiards, table tennis, and quiz bowl competitions will move on to the national competition.
