At approximately 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 21, the Virginia Tech Police Department received a report of a sexual assault that had allegedly occurred late Friday evening in a residence hall on campus.

The victim (a juvenile female on campus for a summer camp) reported that she was visiting with a known individual (a male juvenile on campus for the same camp) who subsequently touched her in a sexual manner against her will. The victim reported that she was not injured during the assault and that she was able to leave the suspect’s room in Lee Hall.

The victim left campus on Saturday and reported the incident to local law enforcement in her home community. That agency notified Virginia Tech Police Department of the allegation on Saturday afternoon. The incident remains under investigation.

The suspect has been identified and is cooperating with investigators.

Virginia Tech Police would like to remind all community members of the following:

  • Be aware of your surroundings and trust your instincts.
  • Sexual assault is non-consensual sexual activity, ranging from unwanted sexual touching to forced intercourse.
