Katie Gehrt has joined the College of Architecture and Urban Studies at Virginia Tech as communications manager. 

In this role, she will be responsible for strategic communications for the college, including internal and external communications, media relations, and publications for its four schools: the School of Architecture + Design, the School of Public and International Affairs, the School of Visual Arts, and the Building Construction department in the Myers-Lawson School of Construction.

Prior to joining the college, Gehrt served as North American public relations and advertising manager for Alltech, a global animal health and nutrition company headquartered in Lexington, Ky., where she worked as part of a global press team, coordinating media relations, press conferences, special events, articles, pitches, and news releases. She also managed the company’s trade advertising, including media buys and placement strategy.

Gehrt brings nearly 10 years of previous experience in marketing and communications at Virginia Tech. She served as a graphic designer and as communications manager for Student Programs, and then as assistant director of communications and marketing for the Division of Student Affairs, overseeing public relations and graphic design and providing marketing strategy for the 17 departments within the division.

Gehrt holds a bachelor of art in graphic design and a bachelor of science in psychology from Virginia Tech and a master’s degree in integrated marketing communications from West Virginia University.
