Virginia Cooperative Extension and the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research invite Virginia’s community leaders to attend the 2013 Innovative Leadership Conference: The Power of Presence on Monday, May 6, in Danville, Va. The conference will be held at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research, 150 Slayton Avenue, Danville, Va., from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

Virginia communities and organizations need individuals who will provide authentic leadership and work to create innovative and entrepreneurial environments.  “This type of leadership demands that individuals first understand themselves and the power of their presence on building communities of trust and engagement,” said Martha Walker, Extension community viability specialist.

The 2013 conference is a six-hour session focused on the process of developing individual and community presence.  Leading the interactive training is executive and CEO coach Kristi Hedges who demystifies this elusive trait of presence.  Hedges shows how anyone, regardless of position or personality, can strengthen personal impact. Participants will explore how to build trust as the foundation for leadership, exhibit authenticity, banish limiting thoughts and behaviors, and galvanize their team or community through visionary, inspiring communications.

“The institute aims to serve as a community asset, especially when it comes to professional development and a prepared workforce for Southern Virginia,” said Liam Leightley, executive director of the institute. ”We look forward to partnering with Virginia Cooperative Extension to help leaders become more effective.”

Hedges is an author, entrepreneur, and certified leadership coach whose clients include Fortune 500 corporations, global professional services firms, entrepreneurial businesses, and the U.S. government. She's a leadership contributor to Forbes.com and Entrepreneur.com. Each participant will receive a copy of Hedges’ book, "The Power of Presence."
