The Urban Affairs Association has recognized Paul Knox and Theodore Koebel, faculty members in Urban Affairs and Planning in the College of Architecture and Urban Studies, with the UAA Service Honor Roll Award. 

The Urban Affairs Association is the international professional organization for urban scholars, researchers, and public service professionals.

The Urban Affairs Association recently created the UAA Service Honor Roll Award to recognize those members who have contributed outstanding service to the association. Knox and Koebel are two of the initial recipients of the honor, and will be recognized during the Urban Affairs Association conference in San Francisco on April 5.

Paul Knox is a professor of urban affairs and planning in the School of Public and International Affairs. He is a University Distinguished Professor and senior fellow for international advancement. Knox holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and Ph.D. in geography from the University of Sheffield (Great Britain).

Theodore Koebel is a professor of urban planning in the School of Public and International Affairs and a senior associate for the Center for Housing Research. Koebel holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in English, philosophy, and psychology from Xavier Univiersity, a Master of Science degree in urban and community planning from the University of Cincinnati, and a Ph.D. in urban planning and policy development from Rutgers University.

Virginia Tech’s Urban Affairs and Planning program educates planners and policy analysts to apply expertise at a range of scales, from regional to global. Through locations in Alexandria and Blacksburg, Va., its diverse programs and interdisciplinary faculty provide a wide range of professional specializations, including environmental planning and policy; land use and physical development planning; housing, community and economic development; and international development planning.
