Janine Hiller named Richard E. Sorensen Professor of Finance

Janine Hiller, professor of finance, insurance, and business law in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech, has been named the Richard E. Sorensen Professor of Finance by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.
The Richard E. Sorensen Professorship in Finance was created in 2005 through a gift from SunTrust Banks Inc. It is given to recognize teaching and research excellence.
A member of the Virginia Tech faculty since 1981, Hiller has served as the associate dean of the Pamplin College from 1997 to 1998 and as the Fulbright-Lund Distinguished Chair of Public International Law at Lund University (Sweden) in 2010.
Her research is interdisciplinary and in addition to publication in law journals, her work has appeared in publications including the Journal of Business Ethics, Decision Support Systems, Academy of Management Journal, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, and Ethics and Information Technology. She is the co-author of a first and second edition of Internet Law and Policy. Hiller has published 36 journal articles, including five in the American Business Law Journal, the journal of the premier academic organization in business law, the Academy of Legal Studies in Business. She has received both the Excellence in Research Award and the Distinguished International Case Award from the academy.
Hiller has served in each of the leadership positions in the Academy of Legal Studies of Business and as president from 2010 to 2011, In addition, she has served as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Legal Studies in Education, and has received the International Research Award and the Pamplin College of Business Diversity Award.
Hiller received her bachelor’s degree from Virginia Tech and her Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Richmond.
