The Virginia Tech Student Government Association Legislative Branch passed its first resolution of the academic year on Sept. 17.

A Resolution on the Printing of Receipts in Dining Facilities was sponsored by Lester Schonberger, a senator from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and Alicia Brown, a representative from Sigma Kappa Sorority.

The resolution proposes an amendment to a current Virginia Tech policy that requires a receipt to be printed with every Dining Services transaction. The new policy would allow the printing of receipts to be optional.

"As a frequent user of Virginia Tech's dining facilities, I am constantly dealing with receipts that I don't use or need, Schonberger said. "By altering this policy, and giving Dining Services and customers the option of not having one printed, I will no longer be forced into being given a receipt and won't feel guilty about seeing it thrown away."

"I believe that many students would be in agreement with us that they would want to have less wait time in dining halls and would like to help the university become more eco-friendly," Brown explained.

The resolution was passed by the Commission of Student Affairs on Sept 19. The next step is approval from University Council.

The SGA Legislative Branch meets in a joint session every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in Colonial Hall of Squires Student Center. These meetings are open to anyone in the university community to attend.  All students are encouraged to attend to affect change on the Virginia Tech campus.
