Tong Wang has been appointed an assistant professor in the Department of Finance at Virginia Tech’s Pamplin College of Business.

Wang is one of nine new faculty members at Pamplin this fall. They are part of the college’s efforts to strengthen and expand its teaching, research, and business outreach programs under the leadership of Robert Sumichrast, who became dean in July.

Wang received a Ph.D. in finance in 2013 and a master’s degree in applied mathematics in 2006, both from the University of Southern California. He received a bachelor’s degree from Fudan University in Shanghai, China, in 2003.

His current research interests include asset pricing, financial derivatives, liquidity, and trading volume. His dissertation, which covered derivatives, trading and liquidity, primarily dealt with the destabilizing effects of option hedging.

He will be teaching an undergraduate course in investments this fall.
