Dr. Lori Rios of Scottsville, Va., has joined the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech as a clinical assistant professor of internal medicine in the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences.

Rios comes to the college from Veterinary Referral and Critical Care of Manakin-Sabot, Va., where she was a small animal internist. She was previously a small animal internal medicine resident at the University of Georgia Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Athens, Ga., and a small animal medicine intern at Veterinary Specialists of Connecticut in West Hartford, Conn.

In her new role, Rios will support the college’s clinical efforts at a new referral center in Roanoke, Va. She is board-certified in small animal internal medicine with the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.

Rios earned three degrees in psychology before pursuing her veterinary education, including a bachelor’s degree from Union College in Schenectady, N.Y., and both a master’s degree and doctorate from Virginia Commonwealth University. She graduated with a doctor of veterinary medicine degree from Tufts University’s Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine.
