Dr. Sunshine Lahmers has joined the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech as a clinical assistant professor of cardiology in the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences.

Lahmers comes to the college from Washington State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, where she was a clinical assistant professor in the Departments of Veterinary and Comparative Anatomy, Pharmacology, and Physiology and Veterinary Clinical Sciences. She was previously a cardiology resident and intern at Washington State University.

In her new role, Lahmers will support the department’s instructional and clinical efforts at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and pursue her research interests in heritable cardiovascular diseases and pharmacogenomics. 

She is board-certified in cardiology by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.

Lahmers earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Rochester, a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from The Ohio State University, and a doctoral degree in veterinary sciences from Washington State University.
