Dr. Sandra James-Yi has joined the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech as a clinical assistant professor of toxicology in the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Pathobiology.

An experienced veterinarian, toxicologist, and environmental scientist, James-Yi was previously a postdoctoral associate in pathology at the Masonic Cancer Center at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis-St. Paul. She has also been a visiting assistant professor of toxicology at the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, where she was responsible for developing and teaching the general and clinical toxicology curriculum to veterinary students.  

In her new role, James-Yi will continue her research on comparative biomedical science, toxicologic pathology, medical entomology, and systems and environmental toxicology to protect human and animal health and will support the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Pathobiology’s teaching efforts. She brings extensive experience in clinical and diagnostic veterinary medicine.

James-Yi has a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, a doctor of veterinary medicine degree, and a doctorate in natural resources and environmental sciences — all from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She also completed residencies in anatomic pathology and toxicology at the university.
