Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumnus Lt. Col. Patrick Hogeboom, U.S. Army who earned a degree in civil engineering from the College of Engineering in 1994 has been selected as the Hokie Hero for the first football game of the season versus William & Mary.

The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Hokie Hero program started in 2006 by IMG College, honors Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumni who are currently deployed. Recipients of this honor are highlighted by Bill Roth and Mike Burnop during the radio broadcast of Virginia Tech football games, on the Corps of Cadets website and in the Corps Review magazine.

Hogeboom is deployed for a year to Bagram Air Field, Afghanistan, as deputy commander for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Afghanistan Engineer District. His unit is responsible for the construction of NATO and Afghan military facilities. During this deployment he is also responsible for the drawdown of personnel at over a dozen locations throughout Afghanistan.

Hogeboom’s family resides in El Paso, Texas, but he claims Blacksburg as his hometown. He is a member of the Corps of Cadets Class of 1994 and was a member of Echo Company all four years. He says he would like to send his love to his wife Blythe who he met at Virginia Tech and who is a member of the Class of 1995, to his sons, Chase, Austin and Owen, and his parents Pat and Patti Hogeboom of Roanoke, Va.
