Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumnus Capt. Joshua Petrus, U.S. Army who earned a degree in apparel, housing, and resource management from the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences and a minor in leadership studies from the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Rice Center for Leader Development in 2008 was named the Hokie Hero for the football game versus the University of North Carolina.

The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Hokie Hero program started in 2006 by IMG College, honors Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumni who are currently deployed. Recipients of this honor are highlighted by Bill Roth and Mike Burnop during the radio broadcast of Virginia Tech football games, on the Corps of Cadets website and in the Corps Review magazine.

Petrus is currently stationed at Camp Marmal, Balkh Province, Afghanistan, as a member of the Army's 548th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 10th Sustainment Brigade where he serves as the Support Operations Planner.

He is originally from Niceville, Florida, and this is his third combat deployment. Petrus is a member of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Class of 2008 and served as the Regimental S-4 during his senior year.

Petrus sends his love to his wife Jessica and son Jackson in Watertown, New York, his family, and especially to all other Hokies deployed around the world.
