The Virginia Tech College of Engineering has presented David Lohr of Glen Allen, Virginia, with its 2014 Distinguished Service Award.

A 1976 graduate of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Lohr is owner of Navigation Point Advisors, a consulting company that focuses on technology, commercialization, entrepreneurial networks, public/private partnerships and senior management mentoring.

He spent the past four years on the College of Engineering Advisory Board and has supported the university's efforts in Richmond, including those to secure funding for the Signature Engineering Building, now named Goodwin Hall.

Lohr was also a founding member and a past chair of the Virginia Tech Chemical Engineering Advisory Board.

He once served as the vice president of business development for the Virginia Biotechnology Research Park. In that role, Lohr acted as the executive director and treasurer of the Virginia Biosciences Development Center, the park's biosciences business incubator, and the Dominion Resources GreenTech Incubator, focused on clean energy companies.

He is also a past president and former director of the Virginia Business Incubation Association, and has served as a director of the Richmond Venture Forum, RichTech, and the Greater Richmond MathScience Innovation Center.
