Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumnus Master Sgt. Joseph Warren II, U.S. Army was selected as the Hokie Hero for the football game versus the University of Pittsburgh.

The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Hokie Hero program started in 2006 by IMG College, honors Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumni who are currently deployed. Recipients of this honor are highlighted by Bill Roth and Mike Burnop during the radio broadcast of Virginia Tech football games, on the Corps of Cadets website and in the Corps Review magazine.

Warren is currently stationed at Shindand Air Base, Afghanistan, as the Operations Sergeant Major for 2nd Battalion 158th Aviation Regiment, Task Force Warhawk.

He is from Richmond, Virginia, and this is his fourth combat deployment. Warren was a member of Echo Company in the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Class of 1996. While a cadet, he served as the Drill Sergeant for the Gregory Guard, the Corps of Cadets precision rifle drill team.

Warren comes from a family with a long legacy with the corps. His grandfather Maj. Phillip Warren was a member of Battery K in the Class of 1945, his father Lt. Col. Joseph Warren was a member of N Squadron in the Class of 1970, and his sister Rebecca Terry was a member of Alpha Company in the Class of 2004.

Warren sends his love to his wife Gwynne and to their six children Alexandria, Cameron, Joseph, Reagan, Payton, and Connor.
