InclusiveVT is Virginia Tech’s new approach to inclusion and diversity. At the center of this new approach is the expectation that deans, vice presidents, and other senior leaders at the university will identify three initiatives and report on the status of their implementation at the end of the spring semester.

President Timothy Sands held the inaugural meeting of the President’s Inclusion and Diversity Executive Council on Oct. 20 and the council affirmed this approach to advance the university’s inclusive excellence goals.

InclusiveVT hosted a successful information forum Sept. 29 that included more than 450 on and off-campus participants and resulted in rich feedback and ideas that the university will utilize as we move forward.

Inclusion coordinators are meeting and providing support to senior management areas in the identification of initiatives.

David Travis, interim vice provost for inclusion and diversity, has interacted with a wide range of alumni, faculty, staff, students, and friends of the university about the new model.  He will continue to promote communication and encourage involvement from these groups to assist the advancement of InclusiveVT. His office will also work with university assessment and evaluation professionals and the inclusion coordinators to ensure our ability to measure the success of the new approach.

The President’s Executive Council will meet on Monday, Dec. 1 to review initiatives and discuss next steps.

On Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, the Advancing Diversity conference will feature Wayne Robinson as the keynote speaker. Robinson serves on the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors and is a nationally recognized leader in the recruitment of diversity professionals. The Advancing Diversity conference will include presentations on inclusion and diversity initiatives from across the university and an opportunity for continued open dialogue with President Sands and Provost McNamee.
