Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumnus 2nd Lt. Andy Kress, U.S. Army who earned a degree in sociology from the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences and a minor in leadership studies from the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Rice Center for Leader Development in 2013 was selected as the Hokie Hero for the football game held Friday night versus the University of Virginia.

The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Hokie Hero program started in 2006 by IMG College, honors Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumni who are currently deployed. Recipients of this honor are highlighted by Bill Roth and Mike Burnop during the radio broadcast of Virginia Tech football games, on the Corps of Cadets website and in the Corps Review magazine.

Kress is currently stationed at Camp Buehring, Kuwait, as a member of the 2nd Battalion 34th Armor Regiment, 1st Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, where he is serving as the Maintenance Platoon Leader and Battalion Unit Movement Officer. 

He is from Oak Ridge, North Carolina, and this is his first deployment. Kress is a member of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Class of 2013. He was a member of Hotel Company and served as the Second Battalion Executive Officer during his senior year. 

Kress sends his love to his fiancé Lauren, his family, Northstar Church, members of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, and all Hokies around the world.
