Joe Meredith, president of the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center, was recently honored by the Association of University Research Parks with its 2014 Career Achievement Award.

The award, which was presented in the AURP’s international conference held last month, recognizes individuals who have made research and science parks a central focus of their careers, who have achieved success with one or more parks over a substantial period of time, and who have received peer recognition for advancing the field of research and science parks.

Since 1993, the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center has grown to more than 160 private companies and research centers, employing more than 2,700 employees on approximately 230 acres. The research park was named AURP’s 2010 Outstanding Research/Science Park and is now a member of the Academy of Outstanding Research Parks.

Established in 1985, the 230-acre Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center is owned and managed by the Virginia Tech Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit non-stock corporation established in 1948. The corporate research center strives to develop a growing, prestigious research park for high-technology companies and in collaboration with the university, advance the research, educational and technology transfer missions of Virginia Tech.

Dedicated to its motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve), Virginia Tech takes a hands-on, engaging approach to education, preparing scholars to be leaders in their fields and communities. As the commonwealth’s most comprehensive university and its leading research institution, Virginia Tech offers 240 undergraduate and graduate degree programs to more than 31,000 students and manages a research portfolio of $513 million. The university fulfills its land-grant mission of transforming knowledge to practice through technological leadership and by fueling economic growth and job creation locally, regionally, and across Virginia.
