Galo Valdebenito, a professor of seismic and structural dynamics and associate dean of engineering at Austral University, is developing tools so urban planners can better assess earthquake risks.

His collaborators at Virginia Tech are Adrian Rodriguez-Marek, a professor of civil and environmental engineering in the College of Engineering, and Guney Olgun, also a professor of civil and environmental engineering. Valdebenito's project is funded by the Institute for Critical Technology and Applied Science and Outreach and International Affairs.
