Almost 200 students will present their research and creative scholarship at the 2015 Virginia Tech Undergraduate Research and Creative Scholarship Conference on Friday at Squires Student Center located at 290 College Avenue.

Family, friends, students, faculty, staff, and the greater community are welcome to attend to see a showcase of student contributions to scholarship.

In addition to oral and poster presentations, this year’s conference will also feature displays and installations, a student panel featuring undergraduates who recently presented their work at national conferences, and a performance by the “VT Olé” flamenco dance group.

A variety of fields will be represented. Student participants worked with mentors within all of the colleges at Virginia Tech, including the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, in addition to many of the university’s research institutes.

“With the amazing research being done at this top tier research university in a variety of fields, students have the opportunity to enhance their education and dig deeper into an area of interest through undergraduate research,” said Jill Sible, assistant provost for undergraduate education.

“We are thankful to the many faculty members, post-doctoral associates, and graduate students who are committing their time and expertise to mentor undergraduates to give them these rich experiences,” Sible added.

Presenter check-in starts at 8:30 a.m. with the first poster session at 9 a.m. and other sessions throughout the day, with the final session ending at 5 p.m.

“The spring conference gives students the opportunity to practice sharing and communicating their work, a key part of the learning process,” said Keri Swaby, coordinator of the Office of Undergraduate Research. “We encourage the community to come for at least a portion of the day to see the students’ hard work in action.”

The full schedule and abstract book will be posted on the Office of Undergraduate Research website ahead of the event.
